A country house with a soul of its own
This renovated country house stands at the start of the Serra de Tramuntana. It is a traditional Mallorcan house more than a hundred years old. Its Dutch owners fell in love with it from the very first moment and decided it would be ideal for escaping the routine of their city and coming to the island to unwind.
Set in the middle of a holm oak wood, surrounded by vegetation and forest, the project is a renovation of both interior and exterior in which lasting elegance and sophistication take priority, in a completely renewed home with its different spaces reconfigured.
The owners wanted to keep the same essence the house had always had, so some of the details that make it so unique were restored inside, such as the arches, the cobbled entrance and the ground-floor living room. The remaining rooms were paved with bush-hammered and brushed Binissalem stone.
The interior layout was changed completely, turning the rooms so that the house opens up more to the outside, with spacious, open-plan areas. The layout respects the logic of the existing structure and adapts to the new functional needs of this family, with four en-suite bedrooms and a WC. The kitchen has regained the country style it always had, with wooden materials from Estils i Formes, returning to the house the traditional essence that surrounds it.
Outside, several areas were created (barbecue, pool area, covered living room, outdoor dining area, chill out area and more) where the occupants can enjoy nature at different times of the day. The architectural solutions are respectful of the surroundings but give the house a contemporary look, improving it. The materials chosen are natural: earthy colours for the façades, Binissalem stone, natural oak interior doors and wardrobes lacquered in neutral tones.
The intention was to recover the strong presence of its original elements, not from a historical perspective but through their architectural qualities, with emphasis on space, the entry of light and the interplay of textures and colours.
Importance was given to blending in with the colours of the surroundings, recalling the past of this house.
